Coalbed methane is a type of gas trapped underground in coal deposits. Getting it out of the ground is difficult, and in other places has caused serious environmental impacts.
Although the B.C. government has tried to move forward with CBM projects in several B.C. communities, no community has yet approved such a development. There are currently no commercial coalbed methane developments in B.C.
If the Telkwa project proceeds, it will be B.C.'s first.
